Where is Ulster?
Ulster is another name for Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, in the northeast corner of the island of Ireland. Patrick spent time here as a slave in his youth, and it was the center of his later ministry. The capital city is Belfast, where C.S. Lewis grew up.
What is the Evangelical Presbyterian Church?
The EPC is a small presbyterian denomination. It has close fraternal relations to the OPC, and it also shares some of our history. One of the church’s early leaders, W.J. Grier, studied with Machen at Princeton Theological Seminary.
What’s involved?
The team will conduct Vacation Bible Schools at two EPC congregations. There will be other opportunities for local evangelism and outreach. These may include neighborhood canvassing, street evangelism, and youth soccer clubs (“football clubs”). In between all of this activity, the team will also enjoy some opportunities to see the sights. Northern Ireland has some beautiful scenery, and some significant church history. This will be a wonderful opportunity to encourage local churches, to reach people who need the Gospel, and to grow personally.
Who should apply?
Men and women, young and old—but at least 17 years of age. We are looking for seven team members who are willing to plan children’s ministries, and to give themselves to evangelistic ministry for two weeks. You will need to be flexible and gracious with the team leaders, other team members, host congregations and families, and the children others to whom you will be ministering.
What language do they speak?
They speak English, but not the way you’re used to!
